Hello world, I’m Julien!

I’m a computer science and mathematics student at Columbia University with a passion for teaching, building systems, and exploring how technology can solve real-world problems. From serving as a Teaching Assistant in advanced CS courses to leading an engineering team at the Columbia Daily Spectator and contributing to research and industry projects, I enjoy learning, creating, and sharing knowledge at the intersection of computing, innovation, and social impact.

Spectator Publishing

I’m Head of Engineering at the Columbia Daily Spectator, one of the nation’s oldest college newspapers. I lead a team of more than 20 engineers responsible for the infrastructure behind our daily publishing operations and the wide range of products we build for the Columbia community, which together have attracted more than 4 million page views over the past year. I also led the integration of the LionDine acquisition into Spectator’s platforms and contributed to developing our mobile app, which launched successfully on iOS and Android.

Teaching Assistant

I’m a Teaching Assistant at Columbia’s Computer Science department. My job involves conducting labs and recitations, grading homeworks and exams, and holding office hours.

Intermediate Computing in Python was newly introduced the semester I served as a TA. I helped design lab materials that emphasized course content and practical software development skills, including version control with Git and incremental development techniques.

Cool Internships

Morgan Stanley

I spent this past summer as a Summer Technology Analyst at Morgan Stanley, where among other things I worked on AI agents and MCP servers.

Audience Satisfaction

I worked at Audience Satisfaction, a startup leveraging AI to predict and optimize audience reactions and sentiment across video content, helping advertisers and filmmakers sustain audience engagement. There, I developed video understanding pipelines and LLM-based evaluation systems, incorporating cognitive science knowledge data to achieve these goals.

Heidsieck Champagne House

As an intern in their IT department, I redesigned their truck-delivery data synchronization system, cutting the time for distribution partners’ order and shipment updates from hours down to minutes.

French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS)

I was a research intern at the MILES research lab at CNRS and Dauphine University in Paris, where I worked on quantifying uncertainty in large language models. I designed and ran experiments, and surveyed and analyzed scientific papers.

Social Impact & Fondation Abeona

For over six years, I’ve had the chance to volunteer with Fondation Abeona, a French nonprofit that champions responsible and sustainable AI. That experience shaped the way I think about technology. I’ve seen moments where innovative tools opened doors, created opportunities, and brought people closer together. But I’ve also seen how, without care, those same tools can unintentionally deepen existing inequalities. These lessons remind me why I want my work in computer science to carry a broader purpose: building technologies that don’t just advance what’s possible, but also which takes in account the wellbeing of everyone.

Hobbies & Fun

I love opera, music, and theater in general. I’ve participated in several junior productions at the Salzburg Opera Festival. I also enjoy watching movies, dancing, and taking pictures.
